Dick is an unrepentant news junkie who loves breaking news and has been known to read numerous daily newspapers, even on vacation. He has covered a wide range of domestic and international news stories, most in the form of presidential campaigns, including the presidential campaign of Ross Perot and the bus tour of Bill Clinton through Texas.

Dick performed duties for the Perot campaign as still photographer, chronicling the daily activities of the principles as well as volunteers serving in the background.

Disappointed

I just want to take a moment from work to clear my mind of something bothering me. Breaking with my own tradition, I sometimes stop writing to quickly look up a point of reference concerning a place, person, or event, to more firmly add historical fact.  My current work centers on the first year (1933-1934)in the administration of president Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Although the book is about two boys from Texas, it weaves itself nicely into Roosevelt's presidential run in that the boys become embroiled in an episode concerning one of FDR's CCC camps in Arkansas.

There was at the same time a surprising event that actually took place which had it succeeded would have changed all life as we know it in the United States. There were men, time stamps, events - factual and proven that not only threatened this country, but brought forward a great hero. A person history books will probably never know because there are those who would rather we not know.

So when I went to check on an organization that first appeared in August 1934, pulling up a Google search, the first hit was Wikipedia. I had already read some excerpts about this organization, the American Liberties League, but something just smelled wrong about the entire definitions, and descriptions someone had entered. It was all totally fabricated, and complete lies. Upon research within the site (others had been there before me and a number of folks squared off against the content) I learned that most of what had been written was plagiarized from a book about Nazi propaganda writings.

I won't go into more of this ... other than to say I am sorry to see more and more of this revisionist history becoming commonplace. It will not stop me from writing the truth. I just hope that in the future children have the opportunity to learn who the real hero's are - and to read their stories.
