Depends on who you talk to. Just what is

"Adventure Motorcycling"? One man's adventure is

another man's everyday ride. A Harley - Davidson

rider who takes a vacation, rides to Sturgis, or goes

to a bar after work will tell you it was an adventure.

He's right! But in another sense, the rider who races

dirt bikes, sport bikes, or even a trials bike will tell

you his is 'the' true adventure bike.

He is right also. Truth is you can't discriminate against another person's

adventure.

A group who works hard to hijack the 'adventure' term

are the 'Dual Sport' riders.

I am one of those. But I am also one of each of the above.

Have met all types. But in my experience I have met true 'adventure' riders. And I intend to name just a few.

Hope one day I can be cataloged with these folks.

 

Dual Sport Riding:

Depends on who you talk to. Here we go again.

Google the web and you get conflicting definitions, but it goes something like this.

"The fun starts where the road ends". An add by Suzuki.

Problem is, where is the 'dual sport' in that? If you have a bike set up for 'after-the-road-ends', why does it have to be street legal. Put lights on an Enduro bike, and you have a dirt bike with lights. Put knobby tires on a street bike - well, I don't know what that is.

Let's end this right here. "Dual Sport" riding very simply means a bike that is set up for the road, and/or equally designed for off-road. A bike that is street legal and capable of tearing off down a trail, up a mountain, or blaze down an interstate.

Now I've ridden with lots of riders on the highway, and a great number off-road. And some have been aboard bikes that had no business doing either.

So, let's unweave this sticky web. Here is a bike set up to go down the  road with it's big 1200cc engine, but the average rider cringes at the thought of wrestling the beast down a dirt single track trail. On the
